In the mood for macaroons

Do you want to meet new people over tea and learn to make some macroons while you’re at it? The West Sunshine Community Centre is having morning tea accompanied by a macaroon making demonstration on Wednesday, May 20, from 10.30am. The event is free, but bookings are required.

Enjoy a community planting day at Kororoit Creek. Help plant wildflowers, trees and small scrubs along the creek’s bank to improve the area’s visual appeal and look after local waterways. On Sunday, May 24, from 10am-noon at I66 Millbank Drive Deer Park. Free.

Early detection starts now

Early detection is vital for the treatment of bowel cancer, with 90 per cent of cases curable if found early. Altona and Altona City Rotary are teaming up to make the Bowelscan program easily available. $10 kits are available at the Sunshine Plaza Pharmacy.

Learn to meditate

The Women’s Meditation Group in Brimbank is inviting all women to discover the benefits of meditation. Every Monday, from 1.15-2.30pm at Good Shepherd Community House, 168 Main Road East, St Albans.

Wellbeing clinic in St Albans

Residents are invited to attend the Victoria University St Albans health and wellbeing clinic for dermal, nutritional and osteopathic services by senior students under the supervision of a qualified clinician. The clinic is open to the public during the academic year and services are provided at heavily discounted rates. Initial consultations are free.

Get neighbourly

Community West Neighbourhood House is open on Tuesdays to Thursdays each week from 9.30am-4.30pm and offers a range of free courses, events and activities for all ages, including walking groups, rhythm and rhyme play group, conversational English and budget basics. The centre is at 822 Ballarat Road, Deer Park.

Join the band

The Western Region Concert Band rehearses on Saturdays from 9am in the Errington Community Centre, Princess Street, St Albans. Vacancies exist for percussion, brass and sax players. Come along, bring your instrument and enjoy playing with us.

Did you know as soon as your child is born, you can register them to attend a funded kindergarten program in the year before they start school in Brimbank? Brimbank council manages the funded kindergarten enrolment service for 34 centres.
