Sip ‘n’ Stitch knit friends love having a yarn

Sip ‘n’ Stitch volunteers knit more than beanies and blankets for those in need – they’ve woven the fabric of friendship.

The Sip ‘n’ Stitch members – including Carol Duvall, Marcela Abril-Fandino and Karen Brown – meet twice a month at Sydenham library to knit up a storm for good causes, including about 500 tiny beanies, cardigans and toys for premature babies given to Sunshine Hospital this week.

Ms Brown, of StAlbans, says being part of the group is rewarding.

“We all have the same reasons for being there – to help others and laugh and chat,” she says.

“One beanie takes about two hours. Sometimes in the meetings we do nothing but have a giggle but often we’re quite productive.”
