A newspaper delivery man has suffered two broken legs after trying to stop his car from being stolen in Ferntree Gully on Tuesday morning, police say.
Police say the 45-year-old Boronia man had stopped near the intersection of Park Boulevard and Manuka Drive, , about 5.50am and left his car to deliver a paper on foot.
A Subaru with a loud exhaust drove up to the car and a passenger got out, jumped into the delivery car and started to drive off, a police spokesman said.
She said the newspaperman ran to his Commodore, smashed the driver’s side window and climbed half way in while the offender continued to drive.
“The offender lost control of the car and crashed it into a fence before exiting the vehicle and running from the scene,” she said.
The car thief was described as Caucasian, aged in his mid-20s, and with red hair.
