A man has died at the wheel of his car while driving in Camberwell, ploughing into two parked cars and hitting two pedestrians.
The 65-year-old man was travelling south on Burke Road shortly before 6.30am on Monday when he went into cardiac arrest and veered onto the wrong side of the road and mounted the kerb.
Paramedics were unable to revive the man, who was unconscious when they arrived on the scene.
The two pedestrians – a man and a woman both aged in their 20s – were also assessed by paramedics.
The woman suffered a minor cut to the head but was not taken to hospital.
The accident caused significant traffic delays in Camberwell, including around Camberwell Junction.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said police would prepare a report for the Coroner.
The accident comes as a health expert warns older drivers can be just as dangerous on the road as young “hoons” due to deteriorating cognitive and physical conditions.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
