Ever wanted to learn how to create a healthy garden that won’t have a negative impact on local waterways? The Sustainable Living Program workshop Healthy Garden, Healthy Waterways at Westvale Community Centre, 45 Kings Road, St Albans, is free and will run on Thursday, May 14, from 7-9pm. Participants will learn how to create a healthy garden, including making a natural bug/insect spray and taking care of gardens, parks and local waterways.

Brimbank residents are invited to Brimbank Neighbourhood House for a community expo to celebrate Neighbourhood House Week on Thursday, May 14, 10am to 2pm, at Sunshine Marketplace, 80 Harvester Road, Sunshine.

Sunshine’s early days

The early days of Sunshine are the focus of two exhibitions running simultaneously at the Hunt Club Community Arts Centre, 775 Ballarat Road, Deer Park, until May 9. Industries of Sunshine and Districts 1860s to 1950s is a collection of photographs, memorabilia and printed material assembled by the Sunshine and District Historical Society to celebrate Sunshine’s industrial history, beyond the well-known Sunshine Harvester Works. Photographic exhibition Click of the West: 27 years documenting Melbourne’s West by Des Johnson will also be on display.

Register early for kinder

Did you know that as soon as your child is born, you can register them to attend a funded kindergarten program in the year before they start school in Brimbank? Brimbank council manages the enrolment service for 34 kindergartens to ensure places in the year before children start primary school. Free for Health Care card- holders.

Wellbeing clinic

Residents are invited to attend the Victoria University St Albans Health and Wellbeing clinic, which offers dermal, nutritional and osteopathic services by senior students under the supervision of a fully qualified clinician. The clinic is open to the public during the academic year and services are heavily discounted; the first visit is free.

Neighbourhood House

Community West Neighbourhood House is open weekly from Tuesday to Thursday, 9.30am-4.30pm, with free courses and activities for all ages. Included are a walking group, rhythm and rhyme playgroup, conversational English and budget basics. 822 Ballarat Road.
