In the Doghouse: Stuart Hollingsworth sets a record

■ The Hoppers Crossing Sports Club Golf Club had never had a hole-in-one until Stuart Hollingsworth scored one – with an albatross. OK, this is where anyone who has ever played the game is allowed to curse Stuart for as long as they like. We can all celebrate and relate to a hole-in-one. But doing so on a 260-metre par-four is not on. Well done, Stuart. I’m sure this will place you on a unique new honour board at the club. Also on golf, Robyn Ballan got an eagle at Cape Schanck recently. Robyn is a long-time member and great supporter of the Werribee Park Golf Club.

■ Wow! How impressive were the Bulldogs last Sunday against the Adelaide Crows? Peter Gordon asked me pre-match how confident I was. I said, honestly: “Not very.” He was very confident. The Bulldogs were great to watch, especially in the first half. That style of play will bring people back to football. It’s exciting and that’s what we need to see. The team was hard at it, relentless and skilful. What more could you ask for? Luke Beveridge is bringing in a style of football that the supporters love, and so does the media. The broadcasters are keen to find a fairytale story and the Doggies are looking like the No.1 contender in 2015. The Swans in Sydney this Saturday is another huge task, but I get the feeling this side is up for it.

■ Bulldogs legend Doug Hawkins heads the panel for the sportsmen’s night at the Altona Sports Club on Saturday, May 16, from 7.30pm. Also on the bill will be Ashes hero Rodney Hogg and comedians Pommy Johnson and Chris Bennett. There will be the usual auctions and raffles. For more information, call John Dawson on 0422 410 275.

■ Sam Kekovich will host a sportsmen’s night at Avalon Airport Oval on Wednesday, May 20. The 1975 North Melbourne premiership player will talk about his football and life experiences, of which there are many. Tickets cost $25. Book through the Werribee Football Club on 9741 6688.

■ The big clash between Werribee and Williamstown has been moved to Saturday, May 16, and will be the Channel Seven VFL match of the day from noon. I’ve only heard positive feedback regarding the move from the ABC to Seven. Let me know your thoughts.
