Athlete of the year Jamieson Battistella adds to her medal tally

Meet Brimbank’s athlete of the year.

Athletics all-rounder Jamieson Battistella won the honour at this month’s Brimbank sports awards for her achievements through the Brimbank Little Athletics Centre.

The 14-year-old Derrimut resident had a stellar track and field season in 2014, winning a silver medal in high jump, gold medals in triple jump and the multi-sport event at the state track and field Little Athletics championships, followed by a triple-jump bronze medal at the national titles.

Jamieson, who attends specialist sports school Maribyrnong College, broke Brimbank Little Athletics Centre records in the 80-metre hurdles, 1500 metres, 1550 metres walk, javelin, long jump and heptathlon.

The teen competes with senior athletics team Western Athletics and rates triple jump, high jump and the heptathlon as her favourite events.

“I like the explosion and power of being in the air when you first jump,” she says.
