Basketball

It was a tough night for Keilor in men’s Big V basketball on Saturday. The Thunder struggled to match it with Sunbury in its 91-56 drubbing. Keilor made a strong start, going toe to toe with its opponent in the first term. But the Jets flicked the switch after the break, outscoring the Thunder in each of the next three quarters. Sammy Gazzo was impressive for Sunbury, scoring a game-high 21 points. For Keilor, Andrew Kaban led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds. Despite the weekend’s loss, it has been a strong start to the new season for Keilor. After five matches the Thunder are in fourth spot on the ladder with three wins.

EDFL

Keilor slipped to its first loss
of the Essendon District Football League season after giving up a huge lead to Maribyrnong Park on Saturday. The Blues looked to be in control of the match throughout the first half and took a 34-point lead into the main break. It was a complete role reversal in the second half with Keilor unable to hit the scoreboard while Maribyrnong Park booted goals at will. Trailing by 20 points at three-quarter time, the Lions stormed home, kicking eight final-term goals to
snatch the win, 12.11 (83) to
8.16 (64).
