Staff and little ones at the YMCA Taylors Hill community hub are all smiles after the centre was nominated for a national early childhood education award.
The early learning centre is in the running for the ‘service of the year’ title in the Australian Family Early Education and Care awards, which recognise outstanding contributions to child care.
The YMCA Taylors Hill community hub has been open for five years and provides children’s programs, including long day care for pre-school-aged children, before and after school hours care, and school holiday programs.
State finalists in the early education and care awards will be selected in May and flown to Sydney in June for the national awards ceremony.
Taylors Hill hub manager Narrelle Cahill said the YMCA’s 30 staff were thrilled with the nomination.
“The work we do often doesn’t get recognised,” she said. “We’re often looked at as a babysitter, but the kids do learn here and that learning continues at school. It’s good for the staff to be recognised; they work hard.
I think we’ve got a good chance [to win].”
