Council sees light on savings

Brimbank council is upgrading 11,500 street lights with LED globes as part of a program to save more than $500,000 in electricity and maintenance bills each year. The works are part of the council’s Powering Down program and the present stage involves upgrading lights across Albion, Ardeer, Brooklyn, Deer Park, Derrimut, Sunshine, Sunshine North and Sunshine West. Information at www.environment@brimbank.vic.gov.au

Good bin behaviour rewarded

Brimbank residents can take the pledge to Be a Brimbank Gem. The Brimbank Gem campaign involves residents making a pledge to leave non-recyclable plastics out of their recycling bins. People who make the pledge go in a draw to win shopping vouchers. In May and June, the council’s recycling inspection team will randomly select Brimbank recycling bins and audit the contents. The team will award a Recycling Gem sticker to bins with the right recycling material and residents will be rewarded. Pledge at www.brimbank.vic.gov.au/brimbankgems.
