Aged-care residents at the Doutta Galla Grantham Green centre in St Albans were thrilled to see more than 100 visitors through their doors on a Meet Your Neighbour Day last week.
There was no need for curious neighbours to peer over the fence as all were welcome to the centre as part of the Brimbank council celebrations on March 28.
Doutta Galla Grantham Green manager Kathy Evans said the initiative was about giving the aged-care residents a chance to get to know locals, and Brimbank residents a chance to tour and learn about the centre.
Visitors enjoyed a performance from the residents’ choir, a free sausage sizzle and a car boot sale.
“Many of our older residents just don’t get out into the community like they use to due to their health and limited mobility, so this day is important,” Ms Evans said.
“It brings new visitors into our residence for our residents to say hello and chat to.”
