Soccer

North Sunshine continued its hot start to the state league 1 soccer season with a 4-0 win against Sunbury United on Saturday. Raul Isac scored twice
for the Eagles. Cairnlea drew with Altona East Phoenix, Westgate
went down to Diamond Valley, and Preston Lions were too good for Keilor Park.

Cricket

Melton’s hopes of competing in Victorian Premier Cricket ended last week with the news that no club will be promoted into the state’s top cricket league. Earlier in the season, clubs around the state had been invited to apply for a vacancy in the competition created through a merger of Hawthorn-Monash University and Dandenong. But talks between those clubs broke down and the merger was called off with both set to compete separately in 2015-16.

Basketball

Keilor came up 23 points short against Geelong Supercats in the women’s Big V basketball on Sunday. The Thunder stuck with the Supercats early in the match until Geelong lifted in the second quarter. The Supercats scored 12 field goals to take a 17-point lead into half-time. Keilor continued to fight on but was unable to close the margin, eventually going down 85-62. The Thunder is still searching for its first win of the new season and is in 10th place on the division 1 ladder. Keilor will take on 11th-placed Hawthorn on Sunday.
