UPDATE: Police are yet to formally identify a body found in the back seat of a burnt-out Holden Commodore.
Firefighters were called to a car fire at the Olive Road Reserve in Eumemmerring about 11.50pm on Thursday. Once the fire was extinguished, they found the body.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene soon after. The crime scene was cordoned off on Friday morning, while forensics officers photographed and examined the car.
The red Holden Commodore was in a car park near a playground at the reserve off Frawley Road.
The gender and age of the person is unknown at this stage, Senior Constable Adam West said.
“The exact circumstances surrounding their death and the fire are yet to be established,” he said.
It is understood the body was found in the back seat of the burnt-out car.
An autopsy is expected to be carried out on Friday morning.
