A five-year-old boy has been killed by a car driven by his mother in Koorlong, police say.
The boy was on Red Cliffs Avenue in Koorlong, 11km from Mildura, when he was hit by the car about 6pm on Tuesday.
He died at the scene, a police spokesman said.
The boy’s mother, 36, is believed to have been driving the car at the time and is now assisting police with their inquiries.
An ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 6pm to try to revive the child, who had been “hit or run over”.
“Paramedics did all they could,” she said.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
This incident brings the state’s road toll to 64, compared to 59 this time last year.
