Premier Cricket

Footscray Edgewater has missed out on a place in Premier Cricket finals after a final-round draw against Prahran. Needing a win to book their place in the finals, the Bulldogs looked to be in the box seat after smashing 7-429 in their first innings. That position became even stronger when Prahran slumped to 5-35 in its run chase. But Prahran rallied and became intent on survival, knuckling down to bat out its allotted 103 overs for the loss of nine wickets. The effort was enough to secure the draw and bring an end to Footscray’s premiership defence.

Baseball

Sunshine’s charge towards a Baseball Victoria summer league premiership has come to an end. The Eagles were beaten in straight sets in the semi-finals by Springvale. Competing in a best-of-three series, Sunshine fell 1-0 behind after a 4-1 loss in game one last Wednesday night. The Eagles went into the must-win second match on Saturday but again came up short. After giving up the fewest runs of any side throughout
the home-and-away season, Sunshine conceded 14 runs in match two. Despite their best efforts with the bat, the Eagles couldn’t match Springvale, losing 14-10.
