Eleven dead kangaroos have been found dumped in bins in Warrandyte amid police suspicions someone may be practicing bow hunting in the area.
Police were called to a business on Warrandyte-Heidelberg Road in Warrandyte after a staff member found five dead kangaroos in nearby bins about 2pm on Tuesday.
An arrow was also found at the bottom of a bin.
Another six kangaroos were found dead in the same bins the previous week.
Police suspect the latest deaths are linked to a recent incident where an arrow was found in a live kangaroo in Westerfolds Park, Templestowe.
Sergeant Stewart Henderson said it was likely police were dealing with a case of aggravated animal cruelty.
“It appears something untoward is going on, whether somebody is taking it upon themselves to make a private cull or … people are practicing bow hunting kangaroos in the area,” he told radio station 3AW.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
