If you care about what goes into your body, the summer salads show at Brimbank’s Sustainable Living Festival will tickle your healthy taste buds.
Westvale Community Centre volunteer Joy Munday will host a salad-making demonstration at the February 21 expo, teaching foodies the freshest and most delicious ways to mix your greens.
“It’s all about fresh produce because you know what you’re getting. You’re not dealing with additives or too much salt and oils,” Ms Munday says.
“Salads are great because they don’t have to be complicated. They can be very simple and still very tasty.”
Ms Munday will show off the watermelon salad recipe she’s mastered and offer tips on buying the best ingredients.
“It’s best to go to the fruit markets and find the freshest stuff you can and experiment with different things,” she says. “If it’s an option, grow your own vegetables.”
Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis will also make an appearance at the Sustainable Living expo.
There will be a working beehive on show, as well as the REthink REfashion Café and a community garden vegie swap.
The free expo will also feature a tai chi demonstration and there will be kids’ activities, including a ‘sustainable storytelling time’ and an animal farm.
The festival runs from 10am–3pm at Westvale Community Centre, 45 Kings Road, St Albans.
