Sydenham clings to third place

Sydenham Hillside came up just short in its run chase against Gladstone Park in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association on Saturday. After being set the monster target of 264 for victory, Sydenham was eventually bowled out for 237 in the 80th over. Gayath Pandikorala was the pick of the bowlers for Gladstone Park, taking 4-68. Despite the loss, Sydenham remains in third spot on the NWMCA ladder, with five wins for the season. With just two rounds before finals,
it will take on the sixth-placed
Burnside Springs and fifth-placed Buckley Park.

Kealba exceeds target

Kealba Green Gully showed its batting depth at the weekend, defeating Buckley Park by five wickets in NWMCA. Kealba was set the imposing target of 281 for victory but brought up the win easily, thanks to an Evan Long century. Kealba is second on the ladder, just four points behind top-of- the-table Pascoe Vale Central.

Chasing Roos clinch the deal

Greenvale Kangaroos had a confidence boost after knocking off last season’s premiers, Footscray Edgewater, in the latest round of Victorian Premier Cricket. Resuming at 2-75, Greenvale captain James Lidgett and Dale McDonald ensured a Kangaroos batting failure wasn’t an option. The two took the score to 2-180, before Lidgett fell for 63, just nine runs short of victory. McDonald and wicketkeeper Ben Cox passed Footscray’s score and continued to bat, with McDonald falling 10 runs short of a century. The Kangaroos finished the day 8-327.
