Police make second key arrest

A New South Wales man on parole for robbery charges was arrested in Kings Park last week after breaching his parole conditions.

The 45-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Detective Senior Sergeant Cameron Reinke, of the Brimbank crime investigation unit, said he would be extradited back to New South Wales where he would serve out the remainder of his prison sentence.

It was the second notable arrest in as many weeks for Brimbank police after officers uncovered a number of homemade firearms, prohibited weapons and two stolen motorbikes, each worth about $20,000, during a raid at a
St Albans property.

Police searched the Eddie Street address at the end of January and arrested and charged a 33-year-old St Albans man with various weapons offences.

They also seized an amount of drugs, believed to be GHB and ice.

The man fronted the Sunshine Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody.

Detective Senior Sergeant Reinke said other charges were pending. Meanwhile, detectives with the armed crime squad have posted a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification, prosecution and conviction of those responsible for a number of crimes, including an armed robbery in Sunshine West.

A man with a firearm forced entry into a North View Drive factory about 5am on October 8 last year and confronted the lone female employee. He discharged the firearm in the woman’s direction, causing minor injuries to her arm, then took her hostage as police arrived before letting her go and fleeing the scene.

Police believe the same armed man held up a café on Elgar Road, Derrimut, shortly afterwards, threatening staff with a similar firearm and stealing cash.

Detectives believe they can now link the same man to a significant armed robbery at a fast food outlet in Sunbury and an attempt at robbery just prior to that at another fast food outlet nearby.
