Braybrook: 17 coffins stolen from warehouse

Proving that thieves will nick just about anything, 17 coffins have been stolen from a warehouse in Braybrook.

Two men broke into a storage area during between midday and 2pm on January 15, making off with a morbid haul worth about $34,000.

Maribyrnong police inspector Tony Long said it was one of the most bizarre crimes he had come across.

Inspector Long said the pair had been seen in the area with a small truck, which they had used to transport the caskets.

“I hope somebody somewhere out there hasn’t got too many bodies that they need to get rid of,” he said.

“The owners were mortified that their stuff had been stolen.”

Both men are believed to be Caucasian, with one in his late 20s and another in his mid-to-late 30s.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
