Cricket

Sunshine was routed for a dismal 67 by a fired-up Balwyn bowling attack in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association at Dempster Park on Saturday. The Crows had no answer to Balwyn opening bowlers Michael Tuohey (5-11) and Mitchell Carey (3-23), who left a trail of destruction through the order. Bottom-of-the-ladder Crows trail on first innings by 85 runs after Balwyn advanced to 5-152 at stumps, with the second day’s play due on Saturday.

Bowls

Sunshine City needs a dramatic U-turn to avoid relegation in the last month of Bowls Victoria’s division 2 season. Cellar-dwellers City are 15 points behind second-last Hoppers after a comprehensive 86-66 loss on Saturday. In division 1, Deer Park ended its losing streak but finished locked on 78 shots apiece with Brighton. The Parkers remain two games clear on top of their section ladder.

Soccer

Two Brimbank derbies feature in the first round of the new Football Federation Victoria men’s state league 1 season on the weekend of March 21. Newly promoted North Sunshine Eagles will host Cairnlea at Larissa Reserve, while Western Suburbs will roll out the welcome mat for neighbours Westgate. Sydenham Park face Preston Lions at Keilor Lodge Reserve first up, and Keilor Park will also be at home against Sunbury United at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve.
