Burnside Springs United could be on the verge of inflicting one of the upsets of the season in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association’s Luscombe Shield.
United bowled out ladder leader and reigning champions Pascoe Vale Central for just 189 in 72.4 overs after a stunning bowling performance.
Central might have enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges, racing to 67 for the first wicket, but United’s change bowlers would be the day’s unlikely heroes.
David Mardini and Kulwinder Dhillon churned out a whopping 54.4 overs between them.
Mardini took 2-67 with 12 maidens from his 31.4 overs.
But Dhillon was the game-breaker with 7-55 off 23 overs.
It was the first time Dhillon had bowled in a competitive match since round one. He might be asking captain Jarryd Lindsay for more overs in future.
