Pre-dawn raids on properties linked to the notorious Comanchero bikie gang in Melbourne’s outer south-east have unearthed guns, drugs and cash.
Anti-bikie Echo Taskforce assisting detectives from Dandenong and Box Hill executed four warrants in Springvale, Narre Warren South and Box Bill at 5.30am, arresting four men and three women.
The seven were still in custody at midday and were expected to face weapons, drugs and property charges later today.
A tattoo studio on Springvale Road, Springvale, and a home on Padstow Court in Narre Warren South were among the properties targeted.
At least 11 guns were seized, as well as ammunition and stolen property, as part of an ongoing operation, said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Ivan Bobetic from the Dandenong CIU.
Detective Bobetic said police had also unearthed stolen personal identification during the raids.
Among the firearms seized were automatic weapons, handguns and shotguns, he said.
“It is a real concern but, having said that, it’s a terrific achievement taking them off the street,” he said.
“No doubt we’ve kept people safe by doing it but it’s a reminder that there are illegal weapons in the hands of criminals.”
The Comanchero’s South Melbourne clubhouse was raided by heavily armed police six months ago as part of an investigation into an attack on a man who had tried to leave the gang.
In October, Fairfax Media revealed almost half of the Comanchero, including senior members, were behind bars.
