Bus stop upgrades in Brimbank to help the disabled

Brimbank residents with disabilities will have improved access to almost 20 local bus stops, following upgrade work to be done in March.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is calling for expressions of interest for the contract, with 38 existing bus stops throughout Melbourne set to undergo “minor civil construction” works.

“The bus stops will be upgraded to meet Disability Discrimination Act requirements to make the network more accessible,,” a PTV spokesman said.

The bus stops to be upgraded include two on Mount Derrimut Road in Derrimut; three on Berkshire Road and one on Northumberland Road in Sunshine North; and two on Callaway Boulevard and Glengala Road in Sunshine West. Nine stops in St Albans, Cairnlea, Albanvale, Delahey and Hillside will also be improved.

“Depending on a number of factors, it’s anticipated the contract will be awarded mid to late-February, with works expected to begin within two to four weeks,” the spokesman
said.

“This is a request for tender, and PTV cannot discuss the value of the package of works at this time.”

It is expected the works will be completed by April 22, with expressions of interest closing on February 4.
