A man has admitted setting fire to a Deer Park home, which resulted in two people being killed, a court has heard.
Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge told the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday that David John Campbell, 45, had made full admissions to police over the fire.
Mr Lethbridge agreed to adjourn the case until next month to give Mr Campbell, of Tullamarine, more time to discuss the matter with his lawyer.
The court was told the case was expected to be resolved and not go to trial.
Genine Ballentine and Steven White died in the fire on September 20, 2013.
Arson and explosives squad officers arrested and charged Mr Campbell over the fatal fire more than a year later in October 2014.
Mr Campbell is facing two counts of committing arson causing death, one count of reckless conduct placing Paul Mayne in danger of death, one count of reckless conduct placing Mr Mayne in danger of serious injury, one count of placing Steven Salisbury in danger of serious injury and one count of intentionally destroying by fire a Department of Human Services property valued at $190,000.
Mr Lethbridge remanded Mr Campbell to appear for a further committal mention on February 3.
