Pedestrian dies

A 25-year-old Point Cook man has died after being run over in St Albans. It is believed two men, who were known to each other, were walking on Furlong Road when they became involved in an altercation about 11.30pm on Saturday. The Point Cook man then allegedly laid on the road and was run over by a passing motorist. He later died at Sunshine Hospital. The driver of the car stopped at the scene and was spoken to by police. A 29-year-old man from Deer Park handed himself into police and was charged with assault.

Motorcyclist killed

A motorcyclist has died following a crash in Hillside on Saturday afternoon. The 45-year-old Hillside man was riding a trail bike east on Pimelea Way when he lost control and hit a letterbox about 2.15pm. He died at the scene. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Braybrook’s drug problem

Braybrook has one of the highest rates of drug trafficking, cultivation and manufacturing offences in the state, according to Victoria Police crime statistics. The Melbourne CBD has the highest rate, with the suburbs of Footscray, Fitzroy and Southbank following. Victorian Drug and Alcohol Association chief executive Sam Biondo said increases in trafficking offences indicated greater demand for illicit drugs, and arrests alone would not reduce the problem. “You actually need to deal with the demand drivers, not just the supply drivers,” he said.
