Twelve students from Caroline Chisholm Catholic College flew out to Cambodia last week for a three-week World Challenge expedition.
Students will spend time in Phnom Penh where they will embrace the local culture, visit an orphanage to teach pupils English, repair a school classroom and trek through jungle.
Emily Bailey, 14, said she was nervous about the expedition but extremely excited by the “great learning opportunity”.
“My expectations [are] to see a very different world or environment compared to what I’m used to.”
World Challenge, a publicly-listed company that organises school visits to developing countries, is responsible for 275 projects in such countries each year.
Last year it renovated more than 130 classrooms, created 25 community vegetable gardens and helped conserve endangered species at 20 sites.
