Kealba Green Gully will be hunting an outright win when play resumes for day two of its North West Metropolitan Cricket Association clash against Burnside Springs this week. The Cougars dominated day one at Green Gully Reserve and have already secured first-innings points. Winning the toss and batting, Burnside was under pressure from the get go. Kealba bowler Matthew Nadzielski did most of the damage, taking 6-37 from 16 overs. Jarrod Catania and Andrew Webb shared the remaining two wickets to bring an end to the Springs’ innings at 106. In reply, the Cougars smashed their way to the target, bringing up first innings points for the loss of just four wickets. Kealba takes a 12-run lead into day two.

Deer Park will need to bowl well if it’s to maintain its unbeaten start to the Victorian Turf Cricket Association West B1 season. The Lions batted first on day one of their clash against Kingsville Baptists and were bowled out for 190. In reply, Kingsville is 0-13 from five overs. The Lions will still fancy their chances of defending the small total – they have conceded fewer runs than any side through the first five rounds.

Footscray Edgewater looks certain to snap its three-match losing streak after a dominant first day against Geelong. Bowling first on their home ground, the Bulldogs ripped through the batting line-up thanks to a fired-up Jake Haberfield, the state representative taking two early wickets to put Geelong on the back foot at 2-43. That was only the beginning of the pain for the Cats, who continued
to lose wickets at regular intervals. Lucas Dredge, Michael Kelly and Tallan Wright combined with Haberfield to take the rest of the wickets and curtail Geelong to a modest 165. In reply, Footscray is 3-89, with Travis Dean on 31 and Anthony Barton on 21.
