A man has finally been freed from his crushed car after a marathon rescue operation on the Princes Freeway at Point Cook.
The man’s car was wedged between two trucks and crushed under one of them in a five-vehicle collision about 8.50am on Thursday, near the Forsyth Road exit.
Emergency services including paramedics, police, MFB and CFA crews worked for more than three hours to free the driver.
Three cranes were brought in to lift the truck off the car.
Ambulance Victoria Group Manager Tony Elliott said the man was trapped in his car following a collision involving three trucks and two cars.
“The man’s car somehow ended up under one of the trucks, with the truck’s wheels coming to rest just above the driver area.
“Initially, paramedics couldn’t see the man from the waist down because he was heavily trapped.”
Mr Elliott said the man had chest injuries, internal injuries, and possibly a fractured pelvis and was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.
A police spokeswoman said investigations into the collision were ongoing, but it is believed a truck rear-ended a car that was stopped in a line of traffic travelling towards Werribee.
The car is then believed to have struck a second truck, pushing it into a second car before that car hit a third truck.
