OAKS DAY 2014: It’s time for Ladies’ day

Races? What races? One could hardly accuse the Birdcage of an existence based even loosely on horse racing, but on ladies day the pretence is given up entirely and given over to partying.

The House of Walker have wisely themed their day around “strong women” with the packed crowd bouncing along to a banging DJ.

Olympian Torah Bright is the bright and bubbly special guest, entertaining the cream of Melbourne’s female corporate identities, self representing WAGS and actresses including Melanie Vallejo.

Australian supermodel Ashley Hart has put in the long yards this week as the ever-stunning and accessible ambassador in the Swisse tent while trio of babes Jen Hawkins, Lauren Phillips and Kate Peck represent Myer.

Emirates continues to celebrate everything Teutonic with German model Ann Kathrin Brommel – aka known as the better half of World Cup champion Mario Gotze – as the special guest of the luxury airline.

Lavazza is still, for the third day running, the party place to be in the Birdcage.

Unfortunately for most – including almost all media, much to their consternation – there is no room at the inn.

Fully packed and fully pumping from 11am each day, you’d have to reckon that’s some strong coffee they’re serving.

Their lady of choice today is Aussie songstress Samantha Jade who will heat up the stage this afternoon.

Lexus and three-hat culinary sensation pop-up restaurant Attica have lines out the door and Bar Schweppes is practically bouncing off the foundations to a New Orleans style big band, fortified by Le Bon Ton and Seamstress designed cocktails.
