VTCA: Sunshine Heights with work to do against Footscray United

Sunshine Heights needs seven wickets for a hard-fought win on the second day of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association match against Footscray United on Saturday.

Heights were dismissed for 207 on the first day of the West A1 match at Scovell Reserve and Footscray is 3-57 in reply.

Steven McKay (8) and James Spencer (2) are the not out batsmen.

Also in West A1, Sunshine United is in the box seat to come away with a win after the first day against Werribee Centrals.

Players were forced to battle rain and wind at Selwyn Park and when Werribee batted first the conditions made it difficult to put partnerships together as wickets tumbled.

Sunshine opening bowler Michael Glowacki did the early damage, taking an incredible 3-12 from his 16 overs.

With runs dried up at one end, the remaining United bowlers were able to attack at the other. Shaun Tarrant and Dale McLeod made the most of the opportunity, taking two wickets each as Centrals finally succumbed for 100 in the 50th over.

Sunshine’s chase also got off to a rocky start, with Daniel Norris dismissed without scoring.

But the middle order worked hard to keep the scoreboard ticking over, dragging the total to 4-70 by stumps.

In north division, Keilor will have one eye on an outright win on day two against Spotswood.

Keilor has already secured first innings points thanks to an impressive bowling display on Saturday.

Despite being the away side, the Keilor bowlers looked right at home on Donald McLean Reserve, dismissing Spotswood for 112 in just under 32 overs. Matt Leddin was the only batsman to put up a fight, scoring 52.

Keilor was then dismissed for 140. By the close, Spotswood had reached 2-40 in its second innings.
