Deer Park has continued its winning start to the Bowls Victoria metropolitan pennant division 1 season.
The Parkers easily accounted for Brighton at the weekend, winning 18-99 to 0-69.
Club president Ray Franksen was full of praise for his players.
“It was a great performance in atrocious conditions,” he said.
“The wind was unbelievable. We started off reasonably slowly in the first five ends and then just started trying to peg them back. In the end we were able to go right away with it; it was good to win by about 30 shots.”
The win maintains Deer Park’s perfect start to the new season with the club sitting on top of the ladder with a 5-0 record.
What’s more, the Parkers are two games clear of their nearest rival, Mitcham.
The rest of division 1 are in a logjam, with just one win separating second and ninth.
The only side yet to win a game is bottom-placed Ferntree Gully.
“I think we are 22 points up at the top of the ladder, which is great,” Franksen said.
Deer Park hopes to continue its winning run this week when it takes on eighth-placed Whittlesea. It wasn’t just the Parkers’ division 1 side that had reason to celebrate on the greens at the weekend. The club’s top three sides all won and are locked inside the top four.
Franksen said the results could be put down to strong competition for spots.
“We have blokes playing in our second side who are itching to get into our top side,” Parker said. “I think there’s a fair bit of rivalry going on. That helps a lot.”
