With backgrounds in photography and design, the team at The Frame Shop at Moonee Ponds knows a thing or two about framing, a testament to the company’s 15 years in business.
“Our team use their photographic and design backgrounds to help customers choose colours and proportions that complement each other,” co-owner Sue Hanson says.
“Being creative themselves, they find it easier to visualise a customer’s space
when helping them decide how best to decorate it.”
Sue and her husband, John, believe they have arguably the best range of mouldings in Melbourne for their custom framing.
“Our custom frames are made off-site in the manufacturing part of the business.
“We pick up and deliver them ourselves instead of using contractors, so we can oversee the entire process of manufacturing. This allows us to control the operation and ensure all specific customer requirements are carried out,” she says.
“We also offer a delivery service to customers if the completed work is too large to be picked up from the shop.”
The picture framing shop and gallery stocks framed prints and stretched canvases, photo frames and interior decorating products, such as cushions, ornaments and giftware. It also has works by local artists on display from time to time.
“Customers can look through catalogues in the shop for a print they like or search online in-store. Our window displays, which are changed weekly, give a good insight into what we have in-store. They’ve
stopped many passers-by,” Sue says.
Having
framed many items in their time, the Hansons can work with customers on the best way of framing their products.
“We frame medals – including researching the correct order of displaying them – clothing, jewell
ery, needlework and garden tools.
“We take special care and attention to the details of these specific items, and for original artwork we discuss with customers the level of conservation framing required.” Sue says customers receive stock at competitive rates as the couple often makes special or bulk orders.
