Andrew Bubb has graduated from caretaker coach to head coach at Keilor Park Football Club.
Bubb took over the Devils’ senior side for the last third of last season after Rob McCluskey stepped down.
Bubb was rewarded for a job well done when the role became his last week. “I’m really looking forward it,” he said. “A really pleasing thing has been that 85 per cent of last year’s playing list has re-signed.
“This year we had 14 new senior players so it was hard getting everyone to gel. It looks like we may lose only three players next year.”
Keilor Park is coming off a strong season in division 2 of the Essendon District Football League. After a slow start, the Devils stormed home, winning four of their last six games to book a place in the finals.
Despite bowing out in the opening week, the club produced a gallant effort to lose by only 14 points against Coburg Districts.
“Our next step is to get under-18s back,” Bubb said. “It’s about building depth. We really want to build that depth as we dropped off a little bit in the reserves this year.”
Bubb will be supported in his role by playing assistant coach Luigi Oppedisano, who will line up in the Devils’ midfield.
Keilor Park’s reserves side will be coached by Colin Wallington.
Bubb is hoping he can take the Devils at least one week further than last season. “Two years in a row we have lost in our first final. We need to take that extra step now and win a final.”
Keilor Park will begin its pre-season on Monday, December 17.
