Sunshine has enlisted an all-star coaching panel for the next Western Region Football League season.
The Kangaroos appointed Aberfeldie senior assistant coach Brendan Hallinan to the top job last week, with three-time Brisbane Lions premiership player Mal Michael as an assistant.
Sunshine president Craig Ryan said he was rapt to have the pair on board.
“Brendan’s experience at his previous clubs and his passion and desire to do well really impressed the selection panel,” he said.
“They were very excited about it and we all are. We’re very happy with the appointment.
“Obviously Mal’s experience and wealth of knowledge will be valuable to Brendan and to everyone.
“We’ve had league players in the past but I think Mal has really been to the top of the tree in terms of playing in premierships and that sort of stuff.
“He’ll be great to have at the club.”
Hallinan replaces Brett Jacobs who stepped down at the end of the season.
Jacobs joined Sunshine in 2010, crossing from WRFL rivals Port Melbourne Colts. He was the WRFL’s coach of the year in 2013, when he took Sunshine to a preliminary final.
But 2014 was tough for Sunshine, which won only six games and missed the finals.
“Brendan will only be the fifth coach we have had since 1997 and I think that says a lot about how stable we are and what we can provide for the right person,” Ryan said.
Ryan said he was expecting the Kangaroos to begin building next season’s playing list in the coming weeks.
Sunshine will begin preseason training next month.
