North West Metro cricket
A disastrous batting display cost Sydenham-Hillside any chance of victory in its North West Metro Cricket Association match against Kealba Green Gully at the weekend. Sydenham was dismissed for just 83 after winning the toss. Kealba’s Andrew Webb did most of the damage with 4-10 from eight overs. Kealba brought up victory in the 26th over for the loss of five wickets. Captain Evan Long top-scored with 34 for the winners. Kealba is third on the George Luscombe Shield table with one win and a draw to
start the season. Sydenham-Hillside
is in seventh spot, still hunting its
first win.
Premier Cricket
Footscray Edgewater maintained its unbeaten start to the season with an eight-wicket thrashing of Ringwood on Saturday. The Bulldogs welcomed back last year’s wicket-taking machine Jake Haberfield for his first match of the year, and the speedster didn’t wait long to have an impact. Haberfield took three wickets and maintained an economy rate of less than three runs an over. The other Footscray bowlers also worked hard to keep the runs down; Ringwood could muster just 6-172
from its 50 overs. In reply, Footscray had an early hiccup with captain Dean Russ dismissed for a duck, but that was the only setback of the innings
with James Crosthwaite (58), Travis Dean (67) and Dylan Kight (40) combining to knock off the runs. The Bulldogs are fifth on the Premier Cricket ladder.
