A man who may have witnessed the bashing death of his housemate in Caroline Springs on Saturday, has gone missing.

Police had not confirmed the identity of the dead man, believed to be in his late 20s, by the time

Star Weekly went to print.

The man was killed inside a Rosella Crescent house after a fight spilled out into the street at 3am.

Homicide Squad Detective Sergeant Steve Sheahan said that while a small amount of equipment for growing cannabis was found in the house, it was too early to say whether the death was drugs-related.

Detective Sergeant Sheahan said two men who lived in the rented property were assaulted by three men who attended the house.

One man died at the scene. A second victim ran away before returning and fleeing in a car.

The three assailants left in a dark grey, four-door car.

Detective Sergeant Sheahan said police hoped the second victim would attend a hospital for treatment

“Our main focus is on ensuring his safety, ensuring his well-being and asking him to assist with our investigation,” he said. “We’re here to help him.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
