Pupils at Sunshine Harvester Primary School got their groove on last week during a visit from the Australian Ballet Education Ensemble.
Grades 3 to 6 pupils spent last Thursday morning channelling their inner dancer during the ballet’s Out There workshop, which encouraged fitness and movement.
Children also got to meet Australian Ballet dancers and see costumes and headpieces from the ballet Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.
Australian Ballet education director Helen Cameron said Out There was about encouraging all children, regardless of experience, to learn about dance as a form of artistic expression, recreational activity and entertainment.
Ms Cameron said the program had reached about 70,000 students across Australia since its start in 2006.
“It’s about fitness, it’s about movement memory and it’s about the children inventing their own movements as well,” she said.
“There was a real buzz going on [during the day]; it was lovely.”
