Brimbank’s State Emergency Service was kept busy last week when wild weather wreaked havoc on properties.
Wind gusts of more than 100 kilometres an hour on Sunday, September 28, and again last Tuesday caused building damage and brought down trees.
Brimbank SES spokesman Brad Dalgleish said the unit attended 21 weather call-outs on the Sunday and six last Tuesday.
Two Brimbank crews were also sent to Narre Warren last Tuesday night to help with storm damage. Mr Dalgleish said strong winds caused a tin roof to fly off a property in Ardeer and land in a neighbour’s front yard. He called on home owners to perform preventive maintenance on their property, particularly when high winds or storms were forecast.
“If there’s severe weather predicted, secure loose objects, if you can, bring them in out of the weather, have a look at any trees that are around your property and trim any branches leaning over houses.
‘‘Also, periodically take a walk around your building and look for things like broken roof tiles. All of these things can become flying weapons.”
