A woman has been stalked, chased and bashed by a stranger in a terrifying weekend attack in North Sunshine.
Police say the woman was walking along Metherall Street about 4.30pm on Saturday when she noticed a man following her.
She began to run along Gilmour Road, next to the train line, but the offender soon caught up and began to verbally abuse her, before eventually hitting her.
Police media spokeswoman Clair White said the attacker only fled after a passing train disturbed him.
“The woman then flagged down a passing driver who dropped her at Sunshine Hospital, where police were notified,” Ms White said.
The victim received significant injuries and is helping police with their investigation.
Police media officer Creina O’Grady confirmed the victim did not know her offender.
Brimbank detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward, including the driver who helped the woman.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
