Oakleigh snatches TAC Cup
The Oakleigh Chargers upset Calder Cannons to claim the TAC Cup premiership at the weekend. Oakleigh went into the game as underdogs and gave up a 17-point lead at quarter time, but it booted 15 goals in the final three quarters while restricting the Cannons to just six to seal the 17.15 (117) to 11.4 (70) win. Collingwood father-son draft prospect Darcy Moore finished his last junior match in style, booting two goals for Oakleigh. For Calder, Touk Miller worked hard and was well supported by Paul Ahern.
Footscray back on top
In its first season as a stand-alone club, Footscray is the VFL premier. The Bulldogs beat Box Hill Hawks on Sunday by 22 points. Nothing separated the two teams for the first half. Box Hill took a seven point lead into the fourth quarter, only to be run down by the fast-finishing Bulldogs for whom Brett Goodes was named best on ground. For Box Hill, former Keilor junior James Sicily and former Werribee VFL player Ben Ross were among the best.
