Jets have to settle for sixth

The Western Jets missed out on a top-four spot in the TAC Cup after going down to Gippsland Power by two points on Sunday. The Jets conceded seven goals in the last term as a three-goal lead turned into a 16.7 (103) to 15.11 (101) loss. The Jets finished the season in sixth place and will play the Dandenong Stingrays in an elimination final on Sunday.

Lions go for grand final spot

Deer Park will meet Spotswood at Werribee’s Chirnside Park on Saturday for a place in the Western Region Football League’s division 1 grand final. The unbeaten Lions will be fresh from a week off while the Woodsmen go into the game after smashing Werribee Districts by 50 points last Saturday.

Draw costs Reds a place

Cairnlea slipped to third on the state league 1 soccer table after drawing 1-1 with Preston on Saturday. In a hard-fought clash between two of the competition’s best sides, the Reds scored first before Preston came roaring back. The Reds dropped one place after Moreland City collected all three points against Sunbury United.

Cavaliers do it tough again

Green Gully’s National Premier League soccer struggles continued with a 2-1 loss to the Port Melbourne Sharks on Saturday. The Sharks led 2-0 before an own goal gave the Cavaliers a consolation. The Cavaliers will be away to Northcote City in their next match on Saturday.
