Hillside’s Essendon District Football League season came to an abrupt end on Saturday with the Sharks going down to West Coburg by 72 points.
Playing in front of a home crowd, the Sharks failed to make the most of their opportunities.
Hillside had kicked 2.9 up to three-quarter time. There were no such problems for West Coburg, led by best-on-ground Alexander Stewart, who booted five goals in the 17.10 (112) to 5.10 (40) win.
The result means Hillside finishes the division 1 season in seventh with a 5-11 record.
Taylors Lakes was given a scare against competition strugglers Craigieburn.
The Lions went into the match knowing their third place position was secure.
But Craigieburn, in second-last place and trying to avoid relegation, had everything to play for. The Eagles stuck with Taylors Lakes all day before going down by four points, 8.16 (64) to 8.11 (59).
Elsewhere, Hadfield lost to Oak Park, meaning Craigieburn avoided relegation by five percentage points.
