Brain-food books do the rounds for Brimbank project

Wanted: pre-loved books seeking a new home.

Tweddle Child and Family Health Service is joining forces with The Smith Family for the Books for Brimbank project, which has donated children’s books making their way into the hands of enthusiastic young bookworms across Brimbank.

Tweddle is calling on families to donate children’s books in good condition to its Footscray office until this Friday, August 22, as part of Children’s Book Week celebrations.

From there, the books will be distributed through The Smith Family Sunshine office, Brimbank playgroups and community care programs.

“We’re aware of the importance of books to early brain development and attachment in children and have been using books to build parents’ awareness of this through our parenting programs,” Kanthi Sayers, of Tweddle, said.

“Through reading with children, important neural pathways are built, laying the foundations for strengthened attachment, improved speech and communication skills, enhanced concentration and the knowledge that reading is fun.”

Books can be donated at Tweddle Child and Family Health Service, 53 Adelaide Street, Footscray, during business hours.
