A knife-wielding man who locked himself inside a house in Essendon for 13 hours has been arrested.
Officers were called to the Kalimna Street home about 8pm on Sunday after reports a man had locked himself inside his home while armed with a knife.
A police spokeswoman said the critical incident response team was also called to the scene, and joined police in negotiating with the man.
The siege ended about 9am on Monday when the 56-year-old surrendered peacefully to police, the spokeswoman said. He is helping police with their inquiries.
No one was injured during the siege.
Police have closed off Kalimna Street between Brewster Street and Napier Crescent, and motorists driving through the area are advised to seek an alternative route.
