Carlton forward Jeff Garlett received a cut to his head after an alleged bashing on his birthday outside a Melbourne bar.
Garlett was allegedly assaulted by a group of four men outside a La Trobe Street bar at 5.10am on Sunday.
A police spokeswoman confirmed a man had been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with a head injury after the incident.
She said four men arrested at the scene were charged with affray, recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault and other assault-related offences.
A 26-year-old Hampton East man, a 24-year-old Endeavour Hills man, a 22-year-old Oakleigh man and a 26-year-Springvale man were charged and bailed. They will face court on October 28.
Garlett, who turned 25 on Sunday, has been in and out of Carlton’s side this season.
He has kicked 183 goals from 107 games for the Blues and last played in the close loss to Geelong on June 6, his ninth match of the season. He was drafted in 2010.
