Eid: it’s time for hugs and hearty meals

Ekrem Fuldagli expects more than 600 people to gather at Sunshine Mosque this Sunday to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the Feast of Breaking the Fast.

The chairman of the Cyprus Turkish Islamic Community of Victoria has been organising the mosque’s big bash for months.

Mr Fuldagli is looking forward to a “big multicultural event where people can learn about two important festivals on the Islamic cultural calendar”.

He will also give his children a hug “and hear them wish me a happy Eid”.

The festival marks the end of Ramadan, a holy month of fasting, and Mr Fuldagli is no doubt an array of Turkish Cypriot dishes will lure the crowds, both Muslim and non-Muslim
