Commonwealth Games: Sydenham’s Mehrdad Tarash out in quarter-finals

Sydenham wrestler Mehrdad Tarash lost in the quarter-finals of the 65-kilogram division at the Commonwealth Games.

Fellow erestlers Stevie Kelly and Ali Abdo also missed the finals in their events.

Kelly lost to Wales’ Sarah Connolly in the 63-kilogram division.

Abdo, from Altona, lost to the eventual gold medalist Tamerlan Tagziev  in the round of 16 in the 86-kilogram division.

Bundoora’s Jian Fang Lay is through to the semi-finals in the women’s table tennis singles event at the Commonwealth Games.

Lay, who has already won bronze in the women’s teams event, will face Singapore’s Yu Mengyu for a spot in the medal matches.
