The days of anorexic models, meagre clothing and bad influences are fading.
Generation Z is transforming the face of the modelling industry by emphasising “positivity and confidence”.
The Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search 2014 state finalists were announced earlier this month, with Sunshine’s Dechen Grenfell one of the eight Victorian contenders.
The 14-year-old says she was not even thinking about entering the competition until a friend encouraged her to give it a shot.
“It was scary at first, but I was really excited to meet the judges,” she said.
Dechen says she owes her success to her positive attitude and confidence.
“I tend to find the bright side of situations. It’s up to you to decide whether you see the good or the bad.”
Girlfriend magazine editor Sarah Tarca said the entrants who stood out “really had something special – a unique, interesting look, a great attitude and a lot of confidence”.
“Dechen is a confident, gorgeous girl both inside and out,” she said.
The overall 2014 winner will be announced in the magazine’s September issue.
