Two charged over Deer Park murder

Following a call for assistance last week, police have charged two men over the Australia Day death of a man in Deer Park.

Michael Sleiman, 20, was found dead at a home in Billingham Road, Deer Park, on Sunday, January 26, about 10pm following an altercation between two groups.

Last Wednesday, police executed a warrant in Deer Park and arrested 22-year-old Matthew Delamothe shortly before 10.30am.

He was later charged with murder and was refused bail. He was due to face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Late Friday, police charged a second man, 19-year-old Benjamin Borg, also with murder, after police made a number of arrests earlier in the day. And Homicide Squad detectives arrested two more men, both from Caroline Springs and aged 23 and 24, on Monday morning.

The two men were assisting police with their enquiries when

Star Weekly went to press.

The homicide squad’s Detective Inspector Mick Hughes said last week police were looking to speak to two people in particular who had phoned Crime Stoppers. “As the investigation develops, the details appear to be … valuable to us as we progress this case,” Detective Inspector Hughes said. “We know an altercation took place in the home and those who entered were believed to be aged in their late teens to late 20s.

“The home and a car parked in the driveway during the incident were extensively damaged.”
